how to record iPhone's screen with audio in iOS 11
he centerpiece of Apple's WWDC presentation for us was iOS 11,
and it did not disappoint. The latest iteration of the tech giant's
venerable mobile operating system has been partly redesigned and comes
with a ton of new features that its users were only able to dream about
in previous versions. One of those new features is native screen
recording.
While major enhancements such as the fully revamped App Store and Control Center
were in the forefront during iOS 11's introduction, many smaller but
still significant improvements didn't get as much attention as they
deserved — especially iOS 11's native Screen Recording tool.
The importance of native screen recording arriving for the iPhone
cannot be understated. Recording your iPhone's screen on previous iOS
versions either relied on paid third-party apps, glitchy jailbreak
tweaks, frustrating sideloaded apps, or a laborious process requiring your Mac computer.
All
that has finally changed with the arrival of iOS 11, and you can now
record your screen as easily as browsing the web or accessing an app. If
you'd like to learn more about how to enable and use this awesome
feature on Apple's newest iOS, just keep on reading.
Add the Screen Recording Shortcut
Just like the Flashlight tool, the Screen Recording tool doesn't have an
app — just a control option for the Control Center. First, head over to
your iPhone's Settings, then tap on Control Center. From there, scroll
down to find the Screen Recording control, and tap on the green "plus"
icon to add it onto the Control Center.
Start Recording Your Screen
Once you've added the Screen Recording control tile in the Settings,
you'll now see the Screen Recording toggle that you can tap on whenever
you want to record your screen. If you want your screen recording to
have audio, simply perform a long press or 3D Touch on the control tile
to open its very own control window, then tap on the mic icon on the
bottom to toggle audio on or off.
Stop Your Video Recording
You can tap on the Screen Recording option in the Control Center to
start a screen recording, or you can long press or 3D Touch on it and
press "Start Recording." To stop a recording, you can do the same thing —
tap on the Screen Recording option, or long press or 3D Touch on it and
press "Stop Recording." Alternatively, you can tap on the blue
recording indicator in the status bar to stop it, if you see one. Not
all apps will show the status bar, especially in games.
Once you stop recording, you'll get a notification that you can tap on to quickly view the video in the Photos application.
Edit Your Video
To edit your video, simply select the editing icon next to the trash
bin. To trim your video, just tap and hold on one of the black arrows on
either side of the frame viewer, and move it inward. The yellow
cropping indicator will show up to help you see better. You can preview
the video anytime by tapping on the play button in the bottom center.
Once you're satisfied with the video's length, tap on "Done" in the
bottom right and select "Save as New Clip" to save it. This won't
overwrite the current clip, so you don't have to worry about losing the
original screen recording.
As iOS 11 is still in its beta stages, the iPhone's screen recording
feature obviously needs further polish before it's released in the wild.
One tweak we'd like for Apple to apply would be for the Control Center
to exit automatically once Screen Recording is started.
